Comparing Early Peach Varieties

Now that we have started peach harvest, I thought it would be good to compare notes on some of the varieties that others are growing.

So far we have picked 3:
Early Treat - this was only a second year tree and it made 5 peaches. They were peachy!
Gold Dust - a classic variety that was very hard to get size on even with thinning, and our tree had a bit of leaf curl. The peaches were tasty and there were quite a few. For us it is not very freestone and hard to get the pit out.
Duke of York - a white fleshed delight! The peaches were small in spite of thinning, but truly the most delectable of any early peach with superlative aroma that you can smell in the whole house. Melting flesh. It seems to bruise almost from looking at it and it will go by really fast, but so worth it!

Next week we’ll have Babcock and HW272. Will report again then.

What are you growing?
